There’s a new sheriff in town — literally.

Wyatt Houppert, 12, of Hauppauge, was named honorary sheriff for the day Tuesday.

Houppert got to sit at Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr.’s desk and meet with deputies.

Houppert is battling kidney failure and is preparing for a lifesaving transplant.

His mother says he’s been very tough through the whole ordeal.

“He has to go through so much that an adult would have a hard time dealing with, let alone a 12-year-old, so seeing him so happy its just an indescribable feeling,” she says.

Earlier this month, Houpper was invited to spend the day with Hauppauge firefighters.

His surgery is scheduled for Monday.
