The application to open a slaughterhouse on Beaver Dam Road in Islip has been denied.
The Islip Zoning Board of Appeals denied the proposed chicken slaughterhouse Wednesday night.
News 12 previously reported that animal rights activists protested when they learned that the owner of slaughterhouse in Queens wanted to open a second location in Islip.
The uproar came after the group “Brooklyn-Queens Animal Save” took a video outside the F&D Live Poultry Slaughterhouse in Jamaica, Queens, and said that hundreds of unattended chickens in crates in freezing and deplorable conditions.
"Deny Mr. Rosario's application immediately,” says activist John DiLeonardo. “People don't want dead and dying chickens right here and that's what going to happen if this permit is approved."
Neighbors also say that they worried about their property values and noise.
