Some animal rights activists protested outside an Islip Zoning Board of Appeals meeting Tuesday after the owner of a Queens slaughterhouse applied to open another one on Beaver Dam Road.
The uproar comes after the group “Brooklyn-Queens Animal Save” took a video outside the F&D Live Poultry Slaughterhouse in Jamaica, Queens. They say it shows hundreds of unattended chickens in crates in freezing and deplorable conditions.
The group, along with “Long Island Orchestrating For Nature,” protested owner Joseph Rosario’s application for an Islip slaughterhouse.
"Deny Mr. Rosario's application immediately,” says activist John DiLeonardo. “People don't want dead and dying chickens right here and that's what going to happen if this permit is approved."
A decision has not yet been made about Rosario’s application. It was not on the Zoning Board’s agenda for Tuesday evening. News 12 reached out to him Tuesday, but he said he was too busy to talk. In a follow-up call, News 12 was told he wasn’t there.
