Zombies were out in full force in Nassau last week, and it was all for a good cause.
The inaugural race of "rUNDEAD," in which participants try to outrun zombies, took place at Brady Park in Massapequa Park last Saturday.
The object for participants was to run the course without getting caught by the undead. The goal was to make it through while hanging on to at least one flag.
The event raised money for the Special Olympics. Patchogue resident Matthew Schuster, who competes in the Special Olympics, signed up to be a zombie in the race. "I think this is wonderful for the Special Olympics and my friends," Schuster says.
Organizers say the race raised more than $20,000 for the Special Olympics.
