Zombies invaded Massapequa Park today, and it was all for a good cause.
The rUNDEAD race involved a 3-mile run through Brady Park where about 500 participants were confronted by zombies on every corner. Proceeds benefit the Special Olympics.
The runners wore belts affixed with three flags. The zombies were on the course, spooking the runners and attempting to steal their flags. Runners who made it through the course with at least one flag left were considered to have made it out "alive."
Participants say the annual event is a win-win, because they're outside getting exercise whie raising money for a special cause.
Organizers said they hoped to raise about $30,000 for Special Olympics this year.
