Everyone who pays taxes paid for the primaries, but everyone can't take part.

State law makes it so that only registered Democrats and Republicans in Nassau and Suffolk counties are allowed to vote in the primaries. Political analyst Mike Dawidziak says that means everyone isn't getting their money's worth.

In Nassau, online budget records show the county budgeted more than $2.9 million for the primary election. Suffolk County's online budget doesn't show a similar breakdown.

News 12 reached out to officials in Nassau and Suffolk about the final cost for this year's primaries. We are waiting to hear back.

According to the state Board of Elections, Tuesday is the last day for mail, absentee, military and overseas ballots to arrive.
