Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is calling on the MTA for relocation of its bus depot after one of their buses crashed into a storefront.

Surveillance video shows the MTA bus striking the storefront Friday afternoon at the corner of Warburton and Ashburton avenues.

"That was dangerous. It's a good thing nobody was over there," said David Moseley, a Yonkers resident.

The bus also hit two unoccupied parked cars. The bus driver sustained minor injuries and was the only one aboard.

In a statement posted to social media, Spano says the MTA bus depot should be relocated from Yonkers to New York City.

"We don't need them here causing a ruckus," said Spano, "We want them out."

According to Spano, these buses mostly serve New York City residents, yet the Yonkers taxpayers will be the ones covering the entire cost of the emergency response to the crash. He says Yonkers loses about $400,000 per year in property taxes.

"They're not there for our benefit. They don't pay any Yonkers property taxes. Not at all. They use an MTA loophole," said Spano.

This isn't the first time Spano has called for the bus depot to move. So far, his efforts have been unsuccessful.

"It's cheaper for them to keep their buses here, even though it's a burden on the taxpayers of Yonkers," he said.

News 12 has reached out to the MTA for a response. The MTA didn’t address Spano’s statement, only saying that the crash is still under investigation.
