Yoga 101: How to get started
Yoga changed everything for Gina Lee - now, she teaches beginners at her studio in Bay Shore.
According to Lee, yoga is a mind body system of practices designed to balance your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs.
"A lot of people think yoga is just breathing and stretching. And some forms of it are, but a lot of the forms that are available today are very strength building and you're going to sweat," says Lee.
If you want to take a yoga class, bring a towel, some water, and a mat. If you have to eat beforehand, keep it light. If you're pregnant or have injuries check with your doctor.
Choose a beginners class and stay in it as long as you need to. It's OK to go slow.
