A Wyandanch woman is facing animal cruelty charges after one of her dogs was found dead.
Suffolk SPCA officials say that with the help of a neighbor, Almost Home Animal Rescue found the deceased dog chained to a tree at Veleda Bailey's South 27th Street home.
Five other dogs were found emaciated, dehydrated and undernourished.
Investigators say the 35-year-old admitted that she hadn't fed her six dogs in a couple of weeks.
The other five dogs were taken to a veterinary hospital for evaluation.
Bailey is facing up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. She is due in court in January.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Suffolk SPCA at 631-382-7722.
