A fight at a Uniondale bar ultimately led to killing of a man outside of the bar around 4 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

Nassau Police Detective Lt. Daniel Steller said the defendant, 35-year-old Jorge Alexander Huezo Villatoro, and the victim, Tadeo Alvarado-Chavez, got into an argument at Frontera bar on Nassau Road around 2 a.m. The defendant allegedly punched Chavez.

The details of what may have led to the fight are unknown.

Police said Chavez left but returned about two hours later with a machete.

After Chavez was disarmed, Detective Lt. Steller said he walked away, but Villatoro went after him with a second machete.

Police say Villatoro pursued Chavez to the rear of the strip mall and "slowly and methodically approached him."

That's where Detective Lt. Steller said Villatoro "committed a barbaric assault with the machete."

The victim was struck approximately 40 times, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Villatoro was arraigned Friday on a charge of second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
