A Wyandanch man is facing multiple charges after police say he crashed into a utility pole Saturday night.

According to Suffolk County police, 60-year-old Christopher Dockery was driving a 2018 Hyundai when he crashed into the pole at the corner of Little East Neck Road and Vermont Avenue just after 8 p.m.

"I was about to start making dinner and I heard a loud bang," said Dylan Rivera, who lives nearby. "Then pretty much everyone in the house started coming outside."

Rivera said Dockery repeatedly tried to restart the damaged car after the crash.

Police say Dockery refused to get out of the car. When an officer attempted to turn off the vehicle, Dockery allegedly pushed the officer. The officer then deployed a Taser, but police say Dockery managed to drive away despite being tased.

"They were trying to get him," Rivera said. "He started backing away and they tried to encircle him, and he managed to escape as they tased him."

According to court documents, Dockery continued north on Little East Neck Road. Police say he nearly collided with a police car near the intersection of Straight Path and Edison Avenue.

Investigators say Dockery continued driving before he struck another vehicle and a sign near Little East Neck Road and Straight Path. Officers arrested Dockery minutes later near Straight Path and Essex Street.

Neighbors who witnessed the incident say they were shaken by how dangerous the situation became.

"I was saying 'I hope he doesn't do any damage or kill a person,'" said Erika Linzer.

Dockery was arraigned Sunday morning and pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage and obstructing governmental administration.

He was released with GPS monitoring and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 3.
