A Wyandanch mother is looking for answers Friday after her 6-year-old son was left on a school bus all day.

School officials say the bus driver only checked half the bus after his morning route and missed Xavier Newkirk sleeping in his seat. He was found and arrived at school five and a half hours after his mother, Jena, put him on the bus at 8:30 a.m.

Jena says many schools districts call parents when a child does not show up for school, but adds that Wyandanch is not one of them. She says she wants changes to be made so no other child will go through such an ordeal.
