Nassau officials busted a Woodmere podiatrist they say stole more than 9,000 prescription medication samples and then sold them to a South Shore pharmacy.
The Nassau County District Attorney?s Office says 54-year-old Dr. Arthur Minkoff was working as a technician at Woodmere Medical Associates when he was caught on tape stealing. The undercover video allegedly shows Minkoff removing the medications from the closet of the doctor?s office.
?He enriched himself to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars and put people potentially at risk for getting medications that were not prescribed during the ordinary course,? District Attorney Kathleen Rice says.
Rice says Minkoff has been stealing medications for more than eight years, sometimes selling sample pills that had expired. She says the pharmacy, the name of which has not been released, would put the sample pills in regular prescription bottles.
Minkoff pleaded guilty to larceny and felony drug charges. He will serve a year in jail and pay $150,000.
