The FDNY plans to close the 105-year-old Ladder 39. Officials said earlier they may build another firehouse in its place, but in the meantime firefighters will be relocated. The FDNY says the building is deteriorating beyond repair.
Residents and lawmakers, like Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), say the closure is irresponsible and risky to Woodlawn residents who depend on Ladder 39 in the event of a fire. The FDNY promises to evaluate response times. A town hall meeting is planned to address concerns.
