A woman is accused of driving drunk and causing a Bay Shore crash that injured her young daughter and niece on Christmas Day.
Police say 25-year-old Latanya Mowatt lost control of her car on Brookdale Avenue around 4:30 p.m. She slammed into a utility pole and two parked cars before her Nissan Maxima flipped over, police say.
Mowatt's 6-year-old niece was thrown from the car and suffered serious internal injuries. Mowatt's 8-year-old daughter was also hurt.
Mowatt, of Deer Park, was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The force of the crash when Mowatt's car hit the utility pole cut power to residents along the block, who were forced to spend part of their Christmas holiday in the dark.
Police are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
