Some Stony Brook students took part in the Ward Melville Heritage Organization's Wing Into Spring program Tuesday.
The interactive program allows students to explore birds, butterflies and insects with experienced naturalist Sue Krause.
"We need to let [kids] know what's right in their own backyard, all the amazing things they do," Krause told News 12.
Students then made their own craft humming birds.
The program continues this week through Thursday.
