Strong winds created a major mess across the Island.The winds knocked out power to thousands of homes from the North Fork to North Hempstead, with Brookhaven, Smithtown and Southold being the hardest hit. As of 8:30 a.m. Monday, LIPA reported there were 606 customers without power.In Massapequa, the wind sent a tree crashing through a roof at an apartment complex for senior citizens. No one was injured in the incident at the Oakley Apartment Complex and crews were on the scene to remove the tree.Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto says he expects most of the residents will be allowed to return by late Monday.
