A Merrick woman who is accused of strangling her husband to death was freed without bail Tuesday after a grand jury failed to indict her.
Kelly Forbes, 29, is accused of strangling her new husband, 50-year-old Michael Forbes, with an electrical cord Nov. 21. According to authorities, Kelly Forbes' 7-year-old daughter was home at the time.
It's unclear as to why the jury didn?t return an indictment. It may be because it received the case late due to Thanksgiving and faced a statutory deadline. It is also possible the case wasn't strong enough.
The district attorney's office continues to investigate the case. Forbes is due back in court Nov. 30.
Kelly Forbes was previously held without bail because prosecutors feared the Trinidadian native could be a flight risk.
