The widow of a fallen NYPD officer from Long Island is helping an animal rescue group during the pandemic.
Leanne Simonsen donated $10,000 to the New York Marine Rescue Center.
The center helps sick and rescued animals for the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead.
With the aquarium closed due to coronavirus, the money is badly needed to keep the marine center afloat.
Her husband Detective Brian Simonsen was killed by friendly fire during a robbery in Queens last year.
Simonsen tells News 12 that "she wants to make sure Brian is never forgotten -- while giving back to the community that has been there for her."
The money was donated from the Detective Brian "Smiles" Simonsen Memorial Foundation.
