West Islip man dies in police custody after driving while high on drugs

After being sent to the hospital, the man was released and put back in a cell in the 3rd Precinct. He was found dead this morning.

A 58-year-old man from West Islip died in police custody.

The man was arrested after crashing a car in Brentwood on Thursday night. Authorities say the man was high on drugs while operating the car and that he was administered Narcan and taken to the hospital.

After being sent to the hospital, the man was released and put back in a cell in the 3rd Precinct. He was found dead this morning.

An autopsy is currently underway to determine the cause of death.
