Big changes could be coming to the West Babylon School District.
The school board is considering consolidating the elementary schools from five buildings to four.
Two of the elementary schools would teach kindergarten through second grade. The other two would teach third grade through fifth grade.
The remaining building could possibly be rented out to generate more revenue for the school district.
The idea was brought up Tuesday night at a budget workshop, as the school district grapples with declining enrollment and higher costs.
The West Babylon School District failed to pierce the tax cap last month. The district’s new budget spends nearly $2 million in reserves.
Other ideas to provide savings to the district were discussed at the workshop. Committees will now research the feasibility of those ideas, a process that could take up to eight months to complete.
