A playground in West Babylon has been renamed after an NYPD detective killed in the line of duty.
The Town of Babylon renamed the playground at Van Bourgondien Park on Albin Avenue in honor of Detective Peter Figoski.
Peter Figoski was shot and killed while responding to a robbery in Brooklyn in 2011. The 22-year veteran of the force was posthumously promoted to detective.
Figoski’s partner Ricky Giordano was at the ceremony.
"There are certain individuals that you look at in their lives, they're never going to be forgotten,” says Giordano. “He was quiet, humble, he never wanted recognition."
Peter Figoski's wife said her husband used to take their children to this park.
"He was a good man and he was just doing his job," his wife Paulette Figoski said. "He loved his children, he would take them to the park. I want them to remember him as a good person."
Paulette Figoski says she hopes one day, her children can take their children to the park that bears their father's name.
The bridge on Route 109 in West Babylon is also named in his honor.
