People who live on Farms Road in Stamford are calling on the city to do more to prevent high-speed crashes in their neighborhood.

"It's every six months or so...there's a big accident on this road," says neighbor Darrell Valenti.

It comes just two weeks after a delivery truck slid on black ice and spilled more than 2,000 gallons of heating oil onto the road.

Farms Road has been closed to traffic since Jan. 8 as crews work to clean up the mess.

"We're concerned because we all have well water and there are rivers here," Valenti says.

But state officials say they haven't received any reports of nearby wells being affected by the spill.

DEEP spokesperson Bill Flood says there hasn't been any breakouts to the stream near the spill either.

Meantime, neighbors like Valenti want the city to install more speed bumps on Farms Road and install speed cameras to prevent these crashes from happening.

"Just six months ago on this side of the road, right behind where we're standing, a tractor trailer overturned and took out the neighbor's mailbox, telephone poles, and the road was closed for two weeks," Valenti says. "Then about a year ago, there was a major accident with Aquarion when the road was closed for months as they were repairing it."

DEEP officials couldn't provide a timetable for when the cleanup work might be completed.

Flood said in a statement that "24-hour operations will continue for the foreseeable future."
