Islanders fans may be in store for a gift this holiday season.
Newsday is reporting that an announcement Wednesday will reveal which team gets to build a new home near Belmont Park -- the Islanders or the New York City Football Club soccer team.
The Isles want to build an 18,000-seat arena with shops and a hotel. If they win the bid, they'll leave their relatively new home at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The team did not issue an official comment, but Islanders forward Josh Bailey says he understands that fans want an answer.
"As of now, going to Barclays, we still enjoy playing there," Bailey says. "I think for a lot of our fans, though, it would be a little easier to get to Belmont. So hopefully that can all work out."
