Dozens of people rallied outside the Nassau County courthouse Tuesday.
They voiced their opposition to the leaked draft opinion that suggests the Supreme Court could be poised to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion across the court.
Sharon Golden with the group, "Together We Will Long Island," says she "expected" it, but was still "horrified."
"We are stepping back 49 years," Golden says. "We're going back, we're going so backwards."
The rally called "I Dissent" started at 6:30 p.m. in Mineola. Those who came out chanted, waved signs and gave speeches and cars honked and people cheered in agreement.
"We have to stand out there with as many people as we can," Golden says. "We can't stay quiet, our voices have got to be heard, we have got to fight this anyway we possibly can."
Melanie D'Arrigo, Democratic congressional candidate for the NY Third District, says eliminating Roe v. Wade will affect people on the margins the most.
"The people that are struggling the most will be affected the most and not on our watch," D'Arrigo says. "So we're here today fighting for everyone."
