Crews worked last night into this morning to fix two water main breaks in Nassau County.

Massapequa Water District Superintendent Kevin Reilly said they were alerted to a break on Merrick Road in Massapequa between Biltmore Boulevard and Alhambra Road around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Repairs were completed and the road reopened just before 6 a.m. today.

Water officials said the extreme cold weather caused the break, so they hired a contractor to excavate the road, locate the break and repair it.

Six customers were affected, water officials said.

About 10 minutes away in Wantagh, viewer video showed crews making repairs on Waterbury Drive and Wantagh Avenue last night.

A spokesperson for Liberty Water said 12 customers were affected by a weather-related main break and that water pressure was restored by 1 a.m. today.

These are the latest in a series of water main breaks that have affected communities all across Long Island this winter, particularly in the last few weeks.

On Sunday, a water main broke on Lakeshore Drive in Massapequa Park and on Tuesday, Jan. 27, a water main break in Copiague on Oak Street affected more than 50 people.

Officials mainly blamed the ongoing extremely cold temperatures for the issues.
