Nassau County police are searching for three suspects after a woman came face-to-face with burglars inside her East Hills home early Monday morning.
According to detectives, the incident happened around 3:49 a.m. at a residence on Melby Lane.
Police say a 38-year-old woman was inside her home when she received an alarm alert from a garage door leading into the main level of the house. When she went downstairs to investigate, she discovered two unknown men standing in her kitchen.
Authorities say the woman screamed for help, causing the suspects to run out through a rear kitchen door. They then left the area in an unknown direction and may have been traveling in an unknown vehicle.
The investigation revealed that three suspects had first walked up the home’s driveway and rummaged through a vehicle parked outside before entering the residence.
Detectives say approximately $1,000 in cash was stolen from the home.
“It’s a scary thing to happen. It should not happen to anyone in any neighborhood, especially around here. No one deserved to have their stuff broken into," said East Hills resident Alexander Ohayon. "It’s nearby. You’re concerned for your family’s belongings and other people’s belongings.”
No injuries were reported.
