A water main break turned a Nesconset road into a river Tuesday morning.
Chopper 12 was over the scene on Brooks Avenue, just north of Smithtown Boulevard.
Officials say a 12-inch water main burst, sending tens of thousands of gallons of water cascading into the neighborhood. At the bottom of the hill on Smithtown Boulevard, the Brigandi Brothers repair shop took the brunt of the water damage.
"Each bay had about 6 inches of water in them," says John Rutigliano. "Thank God it wasn't any worse, because a little deeper - it could have affected the lifts and the equipment."
The Suffolk County Water Authority believes the break occurred due to the age of the cast iron pipe. Crews were able to quickly stabilize the pipe's gaping hole.
Residents reported minor damage to their homes.
