Crews repaired a massive road collapse that took place in Woodmere Tuesday night as a result of a water main break.
The collapse took place at Saddle Ridge Road at Carol Avenue. There is no word on what caused the break.
It took hours to fill the hole. To make the situation even more precarious, a tree on shaky ground was leaning against live wires at the scene of the ground collapse.
Bill Varley, who works for the private company that owns the water main, says LIPA had to shut off the power to most of the block before Long Island American Water could fix the leak.
Long Island American Water?s president says the pipe that burst is about 50 years old, but says pipes can last anywhere from 80 to 100 years.
More than two dozen homes were without water overnight.
