Overnight
Partly cloudy skies and mild conditions will continue overnight across Long Island. A light breeze off the water will keep shoreline communities a bit cooler, while inland spots stay comfortably mild through the night.
Sunday
A warm and pleasant late-spring day is on tap, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures climbing well into the 80s across much of the Island. Areas along the South Shore and East End will stay somewhat cooler due to the afternoon sea breeze. Humidity levels remain fairly comfortable, making it feel much nicer than a typical summer day.
Sunday Night
Partly cloudy and mild, with a light breeze continuing overnight. Temperatures will remain unusually warm for May with no major weather concerns.
Monday
A weak backdoor cold front may slip through, bringing slightly cooler temperatures compared to Sunday, especially closer to the coast where onshore winds develop. Inland areas could still stay quite warm during the afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds.
Monday Night
Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, with mild overnight temperatures continuing. Humidity may begin to slowly increase heading into Tuesday.
Tuesday
The hottest weather of the stretch arrives with strong late-May sunshine and gusty southwest winds to cause temperatures to surge well into the upper 80s and even low 90s inland. South Shore communities will likely stay noticeably cooler because of the ocean influence. It may start to feel a bit more humid by late in the day.
Tuesday Night
Warm and increasingly muggy overnight, with partly cloudy skies and a strengthening southwest breeze. A stray shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out well north and west of the city, but most of Long Island should stay dry.
Wednesday
Another very warm and somewhat humid day is expected ahead of an approaching cold front. Sunshine early may give way to increasing clouds during the afternoon. By late day and especially Wednesday night, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, with some storms capable of heavy downpours and gusty winds.
Late Week
The cold front moves through Thursday, bringing cooler and more seasonable temperatures back to the region heading into the end of the week. A few lingering showers may still be possible Thursday depending on how quickly the storm system pulls away.
Marine & Beach Safety
While boating and beach weather look favorable through much of the period, ocean water temperatures remain only in the low 50s. Anyone heading out on boats, kayaks, paddleboards or other small craft should use extreme caution since cold water can quickly lead to hypothermia if someone falls in unexpectedly.
