Another round of wintry weather is on the way for Long Island. The next storm system will likely bring rain first especially for the South Shore areas near the Sunrise Highway, with some snow for North Shore residents.
Long Island will be within the warmer sector of the system, which means that snow will take a while to develop for the Island delaying snow accumulation until around the evening hours. Rain and snow is likely to mix through the morning and early afternoon before turning to all snow by sunset.
Snow accumulations for Long Island are expected to be 1-3". Roads may be snow covered at night, but during the day, expect sloppy and slippery road conditions.
Following the snow, cold air moves in and sits tight through Martin Luther King Jr. Day as temperatures stay below normal for most of the week.
