A huge warehouse fire in Uniondale added to a busier than normal Tuesday for Nassau County firefighters.
Seven departments responded to the fire, which engulfed the WIN-HOLT Equipment Group warehouse on Oak Street near Commercial Drive. Fire officials say they had to use an exterior attack since a portion of the building had already collapsed. Three firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and exhaustion.
Officials say the Fourth of July has become one of the three busiest nights of the year for firefighters. A coordinating service, called FIRECOM, answers fire and EMT-related calls and dispatches assistance throughout the county. FIRECOM is based in Mineola.
