Wantagh School District can keep its school mascot until the end of the next school year.

The state gave the district a one year extension to follow its mandate on Native American mascots.

For now, student-athletes will keep competing under the name "Warriors" until June 30, 2027.

This is the second extension given to the school.

The previous deadline given was June 2026.

District officials tell News 12 they are still fighting the ban in state court and are moving forward with an appeal in federal court.
