Two Long Islan districts impacted by the state’s Native American mascot ban have received more time to make the change.

Wantagh will now have until the end of next June to make the change.

The deadline for Connetquot is now March 1 of next year.

Massapequa is challenging the ban in court.

News 12 has been told Massapequa did not submit a request for an extension.

Districts that do not comply with the ban by the end of the year, could lose state funding.
