Residents in Wantagh tell News 12 their community has been targeted by thieves who go from car to car looking for items to steal.

They say the latest incidents happened in what is known as the Wantagh Woods section of the village but say it is happening all over Wantagh.

Michelle Monteforte says she was victimized twice in three weeks.

"The first time it was two guys," Monteforte says. "They went through all our cars and the disturbing thing is they had a device that opened our car doors."

She says they left the vehicles' doors open after rummaging through them.

Monteforte says the thieves made off with medication, tools, cash and lottery tickets.

She says her and her neighbors called the police but didn't file reports.
