A Middle Island woman's children were taken by protective services Thursday after her 3-year-old daughter was allegedly left home alone for 13 hours.
Lenda Alexander, 39, left her 3-year-old daughter at their Tudor Oaks Co-op Complex apartment off Middle Country Road at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and returned at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, police said. The girl was found by a neighbor and the complex superintendent as she wandered outside in her pajamas at 2:30 a.m., police said.
Police did not release where the woman was throughout the night, but said she did take her 9-month-old daughter with her. They said the investigation is ongoing.
The superintendent who called police said Alexander has left her daughter home alone in the past on multiple occasions.
Alexander was released on bail.
