Recovering addicts and anti-drug advocates are participating in a weeklong walk from Robert Moses to Montauk to combat the stigma surrounding drug and alcohol addiction-- and to show that recovery can be just a step away.
The Walk to End the Epidemic is taking place during National Recovery Month.
Participants include drug and alcohol counselors, as well as those who have struggled with addiction and are now in long-term recovery.
The walk began at Robert Moses Thursday and will end at the Montauk Lighthouse.
With more than 600 opioid-related deaths last year on Long Island, the walkers say that they hope to save lives by bringing awareness.
