Friends and family paid their respects Monday during wake services for Corey Phelan – the 20-year-old Phillies prospect from Greenlawn who succumbed to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last week.
The wake was held at Nolan Funeral Home in Northport.
"He was always competitive, always wanted to go out and face the best players, and always wanted to perform well in the field," said Kerri McGinty, Phelan's English teacher.
Phelan began pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies after graduating from Harborfields High School.
"He had a tremendous impact," added Cristina Martinez, Harborfields. "He had tremendous faith, so extremely talented and gone way too soon."
Another visitation for Phelan is set for Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9.p.m.
Phelan’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Centerport.
