Volunteers swarmed Island Harvest in Hauppauge Tuesday to make sure veterans have a holiday meal on their table this Thanksgiving.
They spent the day sorting canned foods and other goods as part of Operation HOPE, an effort to help veterans and their families who are struggling and in need of food assistance.
With the help of volunteers from Starbucks, Deloitte and Chase Bank, donated food was sorted and made ready for those in need.
Veterans and their families are able to come into the food bank to collect a turkey and other food items.
Veteran volunteers also delivered food to other veterans who are in need. Island Harvest delivers about 100 boxes of food to veterans each month.
