Sunday's sunny weather brought volunteers out to the annual spring cleaning event at the Sands Point Preserve in Port Washington.

Organizers say that around this time of year lots of garbage is found on the grounds, including bottles, cans and plastic.

More than 100 volunteers turned out to help with the cleanup of the preserve's 216 acres, which includes six wooded trails, a beach and a pond.

Jean-Marie Posner is the executive director of the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve, a group that helps maintain the historic property. She says the group was glad to have the help. "It's a lot for us to do, so we invite the public to come, and the public really embraces this program," she said.
