Dozens of New York City cab drivers are being recognized for helping carry out Mayor Bill de Blasio's traffic safety initiative.
The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission hosted an event Monday to welcome nearly 300 taxi and for-hire drivers into the first-ever Vision Zero Safe Driver Honor Roll.
The mayor helped recognize the drivers for having safe driving records for at least five years.
De Blasio first introduced his Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate pedestrian deaths by 2024. He noted that pedestrian fatalities are down by more than 20 percent across the city this year compared to last.
