? Violent thunderstorms knocked out power to more than 77,000 homes and left roads flooded throughout Long Island Sunday.
At the height of the outages, more than 50,000 homes were without power at the same time, according to LIPA President and CEO Kevin Law. In total, more than 77,000 lost power throughout the day.
?We got hammered today,? said Law. ?We lost transmission lines, substations, distribution lines, all that got hit by lightning. It was incredibly wicked and wild.?
Of those that lost power, Law said more than 65,000 customers had been restored as of 10 p.m. Sunday night. He said crews will be working deep into the night to restore all outages created by the storm.
Law urged patience to those who are still without power. Anyone who needs to contact LIPA can call their emergency line at 1-800-490-0075.
