Prosecutors said Shaquille Coke drove the car the night his friend, Terrell Campbell, threw acid on Nafiah Ikram, a man Coke dated.
"Coke thought she had been unfaithful while they were together, and he could not accept that the monthslong relationship had run its course, and it was over when she told him it was over,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
The attack happened on March 17, 2021, outside Ikram's Elmont home.
The district attorney said Coke and Terrell Campbell, “carried out a vicious and vindictive attack to mutilate the young woman who ended their relationship.”
Prosecutors said after the attack, Coke contacted Nafiah via a spoofed telephone number, sending vulgar messages about sex and referencing the attack.
“The defendant disgustingly and cruelly called Nafiah Freddy Krueger,” Donnelly said.
Ikram attended Coke’s Tuesday arraignment, wiping away tears as she sat with her parents.
"It's a big shock," she later told reporters.
Coke continuously shook his head as the prosecutor detailed the allegations against him. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
