Police say they seized dozens of weapons that date back to the Civil War, World War I and World War II from an East Meadow home over the weekend.
Police say they found 70 rifles, mortar shells, live grenades, 13 handguns, machine guns, anti-tank weapons and ammunition in the home. They were called to the home after reports of shots fired.
Investigators say the homeowner, 60-year-old David Martin, is mentally unstable and delusional. Det. Lt. Raymond Cote says Martin thought there were dead bodies in his home and that people were shooting at him.
Police found no evidence of his claims and had Martin psychologically evaluated. Martin is charged with weapons possession for the 13 handguns. If weapons experts determine the machine guns and mortars were operable, Martin could face additional charges.
