A Vietnam veteran from Bay Shore says he has waited for months for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to cut him a check for a much-needed special vehicle – but the money has not yet arrived. 

Edwin Moore was wounded in combat and lost the use of his left foot.

After months of waiting, he was awarded a one-time $20,000 grant from the VA to purchase a vehicle that could be customized to help him get around. He picked a used Nissan Rogue and put a cash deposit down, but still the VA has not cut a check.

Typically, Moore says checks are cut by the VA in two to three weeks. He says the dealership has been understanding, but needs payment soon or will have to sell the vehicle to someone else. If that happens, Moore says he will have to start the waiting process all over again.

Moore's daughter says her father's independence is at stake. 

"I feel like it's something he rightfully deserves and he's being denied it," says Victoria Moore. 

A VA spokesperson told News 12 they don't have an explanation for the delay but that the VA is working on the problem. 

"We take these concerns very seriously and are committed to the health and well-being of all our veterans," the spokesperson said.
