Surveillance video captured a suspect stealing a snake from a West Islip pet shop.
The python was taken from Repxotica on Udall Road around 5:40 p.m. on Nov. 4.
Shop owner Martina Scheben discovered the reptile was gone while cleaning Monday morning. She immediately reviewed the store's security footage, in which a man wearing a black jacket over a red shirt with blue jeans appears to reach into a bin and put the python in his jacket.
Right after the theft, a store volunteer can be seen asking the man for help, and the owner says the suspect asked product questions and acted as if nothing happened.
Scheben says the snake stolen is a breed of ball python that carries a rare recessive gene and a price tag of $400.
Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk police.
