A female victim took the stand Monday and graphically described sexual encounters with a former youth minister of St. Raphael's Church in East Meadow.
Monday's witness, along with another of Matthew Maiello's victims, is suing Maiello, St. Raphael's Church, Rev. Thomas Haggerty and the Diocese of Rockville Centre for $150 million.
The female victim, now 23, said Maiello's abuse started when she was 15 years old. She said the first time they had sex, "He told me that it was OK?that we loved each other and that God wanted us to be together."
She said Maiello had sex with her up to five times a week, and sometimes more than once a day. Choking back tears, the victim said he had sex with her in the youth minister's office, the church basement, the auditorium closet, various classrooms and on the principal's desk.
The lawsuit claims the church ignored warnings and neglected to take action against Maiello. The former youth minister served more than two years in prison after pleading guilty to rape and sodomy in 2003.
