Nearly 150 veterans were honored on the North Shore Saturday during the second annual "Let's Take a Veteran Sailing" event.
The event was organized by brothers Kilian and Sean Duclay, of Huntington Station. He and his family operate a nonprofit organization called SailAhead, which works to help veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder.
U.S. Army veteran Sandy Kavanagh says sailing has given her a new lease on life.
"It's very therapeutic. It's so relaxing. You don't think about anything. Just the calm, the serenity," says Kavanagh.
The Centerport Yacht Club hosted the event, which featured a fleet of 45 boats on the Long Island Sound.
