New Hyde Park students learned about America's military history through a class assignment called the Veterans Portrait Project.

Veterans taught eighth graders at Nore Dame Catholic School about service by sharing their personal story.

Students interviewed the veterans, wrote essays and then drew portraits of the service members.

Once the portraits of the veterans are finished, they will be displayed in a special exhibit at the Long Island Children's Museum in early November in time to celebrate Veteran's Day.
