A statue was unveiled in Roosevelt Saturday honoring Brigadier General George A. Jones, who served in World War II, the Korean War and in Vietnam.
The unveiling ceremony took place in front of the Roosevelt Post Office.
The 93-year-old veteran's only child, Gwen, said she was overwhelmed by the ceremony.
"I'm really glad that other people are honoring him while he can still hear it, see it and appreciate it," she said. "He's a great man. I love him more and more each day."
After serving in the military, Jones spent 20 years with the FDNY.
